Description: This spell transforms the caster's melee weapon into a powerful holy avenger, a specially blessed weapon that, when wielded by a Paladin, acts like a +5 holy weapon that dispels magic on hit.

  • Although not specifically mentioned in the spell's description, a holy avenger also does an additional +1d6 divine damage per hit against evil aligned creatures, and grants the user 16 spell resistance.
  • Note that Holy Sword gives your weapon +5 enhancement and other forms of enhancement will not stack with this.
  • The dispelling power is based on the paladin's caster level.
  • If cast on someone who is not a paladin and also does not have the 25 UMD requirement for holy avenger, the target will still have the dispel OnHit property on the weapon based on the caster's caster level



Above is the normal interpretation - below is how the spell is implemented in NS4:

  • Damage vs Evil 2d6 (Divine Damage)
  • Enhancement Bonus vs Evil: +5
  • Enhancement Bonus: +2
  • Use Greater Dispelling (15) 2/day.

The last two points in the original description above, dispelling power and UMD, may well be the same with the NS4 implementation.

8-11-08 - Holy Sword now works on all weapon types. Previously had worked only on 'edged' weapons.
