Gold Dwarf Bio

Unlike the Shield Dwarves, the Gold Dwarves did not decline in terrible wars against evil humanoids. While they practiced some magic, they never acquired the hubris that caused the downfall of some human nations. Confident and secure, the Gold Dwarves gained a reputation for haughtiness and pride. While Gold Dwarves can be aloof and suspicious, for the most part they are forthright warriors and shrewd traders.

  • Favored Class: Fighter
  • +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity
  • +4 AC vs. Magical Beasts

Note: Gold Dwarf is a Subrace of Dwarves. To choose it you must pick Dwarf at creation and choose Gold Dwarf at first login.

Choosing the Dwarf race will include Dwarf adjustments already, therefore your stats will be adjusted from those selected at character creation as follows:

+2 Charisma, -2 Dexterity

Gold Dwarf Guide

Pros: These guys receive the normal +2 to Constitution like most Dwarves. They also receive a +2 to Charisma to make up for the -2 they normally would receive. The other additional bonus is not worth mentioning, might help in some cases but it might be Deflection so who knows.

Cons: A -2 to Dexterity, making the Weapon Master not a good class for the Gold Dwarf. Also the Favored Class is Fighter, which isn't what the Gold Dwarves excel at. They're good Fighters like any Dwarf, but no point in going Fighter with them since the other two Subraces of Dwarves make better Fighters.

Conclusion: No ECL, just a mix of the normal Dwarf. Charisma is higher than normal dwarves, but only average compared to other races, normal Dwarven Constitution bonus, and a -2 to Dexterity. I don't think much of the +4 AC vs. Magical Beasts, for all we know it could be Deflection. This race makes a Charisma based dwarf possible, but it will still only be average compared to other races. Useful if you really want a Paladin or Blackguard if you're in Ragnar's Kin. Possibly a better Cleric than normal dwarves, as Charisma is somewhat useful to them, while Dexterity isn't. Maybe even a Dwarven Bard or Sorcerer considering the +2 to Constitution, but overall these builds are better served by other races.
